Fitness & Wellness Program Coordinator
Reporting to the Supervisor, DCC, Arena, and Taurus Field, the Coordinator, Fitness and Wellness Program is responsible for ensuring that annual planning and implementation processes are undertaken for City recreation initiatives and services. This position is accountable for the development and coordination of Fitness and Wellness programs and services, including program assignments, staff schedules, support, training & development, as well as the ongoing evaluation and coaching of full/part-time, casual and contract Fitness and Wellness personnel. This position requires exceptional customer service skills, for daily interaction with the patrons, staff and external agencies/organizations.
Duties include, but are not limited to:

Supervising and providing leadership, direction, support, training and evaluation of Fitness Attendants and contract Fitness Instructors.

Planning, coordinating and delivering programs and activities for community recreation programs for all age groups with focus on adults and seniors.

Assisting with preparation, planning and developing annual budget for area of responsibility.

Networking with municipalities and provincial organizations to share information.

Assisting in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and staff training for program areas.

Ensuring all customer service practices adhere to city wide practices.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a two (2) year Post Secondary Diploma in Recreation or related field. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in recreation, leisure & cultural programming, with three (3) years’ progressive supervisory experience is required. The following certifications are considered assets: AFLCA – theory and group fitness, Standard First Aid, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, Supervisory Development Program, and other applicable fitness & wellness program certifications. An Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License is required. This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills. An understanding of current demands and trends related to recreation services and programming delivery is vital. Interviewing, training and evaluation experience is necessary. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is essential. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast paced, high volume and multi-task work environment. A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required at the time of hire.
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday
(May vary depending on operational need, facility events and training)
A current Driver’s Abstract will be required at the time of interview.
The City of Fort Saskatchewan offers a competitive compensation package with a salary range of $83,382 - $98,104.50 per annum.
