Your voice matters – Changes to the Water Act
Alberta is facing growing challenges in managing one of its most critical resources: water.
To address these issues, the Government of Alberta is seeking public input on proposed amendments to the Water Act. These changes aim to increase access to water for municipalities, businesses, and agriculture, while continuing to safeguard our environment.
Alberta Municipalities submitted our initial response to the proposed changes earlier this year, drawing on past policy work and the expertise of our Sustainability and Environment Committee. Our message was clear – accurate, transparent water data and strong provincial-municipal collaboration are essential to making effective, long-term water management decisions.
Now, the provincial government is conducting an online survey and holding five in-person engagement sessions across Alberta, as well as a virtual session. These events offer municipal leaders, community members, and stakeholders a chance to share their perspectives on water access and management.
