Your voice matters – Changes to the Water Act
Alberta is facing growing challenges in managing one of its most critical resources: water.
To address these issues, the Government of Alberta is seeking public input on proposed amendments to the Water Act. These changes aim to increase access to water for municipalities, businesses, and agriculture, while continuing to safeguard our environment.
Alberta Municipalities submitted our initial response to the proposed changes earlier this year, drawing on past policy work and the expertise of our Sustainability and Environment Committee. Our message was clear – accurate, transparent water data and strong provincial-municipal collaboration are essential to making effective, long-term water management decisions.

Virtual session – May 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. Register
These events offer municipal leaders, water users and specialists a chance to share their perspectives on water access and management. Your participation will help shape how Alberta manages water now and into the future. Alberta Municipalities will continue working with our members and committee to prepare a submission for Phase 2, but the provincial government also needs to hear directly from you.
