Water Plant Manager
About the Position
The Ridge Water Services Commission is a regional water utility operator in southern Alberta. The County of Warner #5, the Town of Raymond and the Villages of Stirling & Warner are the member municipalities of our regional services commission, and we own and operate a 12ML plant adjacent to Ridge Reservoir. We also provide operational support to 2 other water treatment facilities and distribution support to 4 additional urban systems. This position plays a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of high-quality drinking water to our communities while meeting all provincial and federal regulatory requirements.
Reporting to the Director of Water & Wastewater Services, the Water Plant Manager will oversee daily operations, staff supervision, regulatory compliance, and long-term process improvements.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Manage the operations and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant and transmission systems, ensuring compliance with all environmental and safety standards.
- Review and analyze plant performance data to optimize treatment processes and address operational challenges.
- Develop, monitor, and manage operating and capital budgets; prepare business cases for improvements.
- Lead, supervise, and develop plant staff, including training, succession planning, and performance management.
- Ensure safe work practices are integrated into daily routines, serving as a leader on the Health & Safety Committee.
- Coordinate with engineering and maintenance teams on upgrades, expansions, and process optimization projects.
- Maintain accurate reports and documentation for regulatory agencies.
- Provide standby and emergency response coverage as required
Experience/Skills/Education
- Minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience in water or wastewater treatment operations, including supervisory or management roles.
- Post-secondary education in environmental sciences, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent training/experience).
- Alberta Environment (or equivalent provincial) Water Treatment Certification – Minimum Level II required.
- Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, mechanical/electrical systems, instrumentation, and SCADA operations.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, projects, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to mentor and motivate staff.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
