The Town of Cochrane is excited to recruit for the position of a Part Time Water Meter Installer, working 2 days per week, Monday and Tuesday for the Town’s Utilities department. We are looking for an innovative and skilled individual to join our team!

Okay, but what is a Water Meter Installer at the Town of Cochrane?
Reporting to the Manager of Utilities this position is responsible for installation, maintenance and inspection of Cochrane’s residential/non-residential/irrigation water meters and settings within new constructed and existing properties.
If you want to make a difference in our community and have the following education, experience & certifications, licenses & designations;
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years’ plumbing experience in commercial/residential construction.
- Knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal plumbing standards.
- Knowledge of Provincial and Federal drinking water standards
- Journeyman Plumbers Certification
- Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
- Certified backflow prevention inspector
- Standard First Aid/CPR and WHIMIS
- Confined Space Entry/Fall Arrest and H2S awareness
As the Water Meter Installer, you will be accountable for:
- Soldering, crimping, and freezing of water service lines
- Safe use of hand tools as well as acetylene torches and CO freezing gas
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with limited supervision
- Strong data interpretation abilities and applied math skills
- Work to a schedule and meet deadlines, with the flexibility as required to meet the demands of new home installations
- Flexibility to work some additional hours in the evening and weekend as required and determined by operational requirements
- Possess skills sufficient to record information, complete work orders and produce electronic reports
- Comfortable or proficient with the use of Microsoft Suite including outlook and excel
- Excellent Customer Service Skills with the ability professionally interact with the public
- Able to recognize potential risks and recommend corrective actions
- Ability to interpret and understand engineering drawings
- Motivation to advocate for own professional development
