This position reports to the Utilities Maintenance Coordinator.
This position is responsible for daily operational and maintenance functions at the wastewater lift stations, water distribution system, and wastewater collection system. Weekend shifts will be scheduled as required. Must be prepared to work overtime as required.
Key duties will include:
- Be responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems, including valves, hydrants, pipelines, manholes, and lift stations.
- Be responsible for installing, reading and maintenance of water meters, water turn-offs and reconnections, as required.
- Be responsible for inspection of service installations on private property that connect to the Town’s systems.
- In conjunction with the Manager of Utilities and/or Utility Maintenance Coordinator, develop, revise, and maintain the most efficient maintenance schedules in all areas of the Water and Wastewater Department.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Must possess or obtain, and maintain during employment, a valid Alberta Environment Certification (Level III) in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection.
- Must possess a valid Class 3 Driver’s License
- Must be physically able to complete normal and heavy related tasks.
- Should have some mechanical background and plumbing experience.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions for this position include:
- Frequent lifting and carrying of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Repetitive movements, including operating valves, hydrants, pumps, levers, hand tools, and mechanical equipment.
- Regular standing, walking, sitting, trunk rotation, forward bending, pushing, and pulling during daily field operations and maintenance activities.
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments including all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow), noisy areas, wet or uneven surfaces, and active roadways or traffic zones.
- Frequent confined space entry in accordance with all safety procedures, atmospheric testing, and permit requirements.
The Town of Whitecourt is committed to its employees and provides a competitive salary, benefits and pension plan. The wage range for this position is $38.77 to $41.91 per hour. The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment medical and criminal record check, and provide a driver’s abstract, prior to being hired.
