Job Description

Reporting to the Utilities Foreman, you will be responsible for all day-to-day work relating to the delivery of water and wastewater services to the Innisfail community in a safe and effective manner and following all approved policies and procedures. You are an experienced Utilities Operator and preferably possess both Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Level 1 or 2 certifications.

Your Key Responsibilities include the following:

  • Providing excellent customer service in response to requests and performing service calls
  • Installing, operating, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing all components of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system
  • Operating, inspecting, and maintaining water reservoirs and pump stations
  • Conducting routine checks on lift stations including operation, inspection, maintenance and repair
  • Responding to SCADA system alarms during working hours and when on call
  • Daily readings and recording results for all reservoir functions and conditions
  • Following all Town health, safety and operations policies and procedures 

This position includes on-call rotations, including some overtime, evenings and weekends

You Possess:

  • Prior experience in municipal water or wastewater systems operations or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain the following Operator Certification as required by Alberta Environment:
    • Water Distribution Level 1
    • Wastewater Collection Level 1
  • Aptitude and experience with mechanical work, including general repairs and maintenance
  • Ability to perform physical work including working outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions, working in confined areas and open trenches
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • A valid Class 3 Driver’s license with airbrake endorsement, or able to obtain within 3 months
  • A High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)

The Town of Innisfail offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and certifications and an excellent benefits package. The hourly rate for this position ranges from $36.31 per hour to $41.08 per hour, based on a 40 hour work week. Utilities Operators with both Level 1 Certifications start at an hourly rate of $40.84.
