The Opportunity:

Traffic signal electrician technician is responsible for providing the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signals and associated electronic equipment and devices. This position is also responsible for the planning, scheduling of all traffic signal maintenance repairs, upgrades and periodic software updates.

Responsibilities include:
• Substantial knowledge of the methods used in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control signals and vehicle detection devices.
• Troubleshoot and repair traffic signals, signalized crosswalks and detection systems
• Plan/schedule, the timely preventative maintenance of all electrical traffic control devices.
• Configure, test and wire traffic signal cabinets, intersections, signalized crosswalks, and detection systems
• Install and program communications equipment including radios, fibre optics and cellular components
• Maintain legible, accurate, written, and computerized records and develop reports.
• Provide modifications and or install new timing plans as presented.
• Orders and stocks spare equipment components under a defined budget

You Bring:

• A completed 2-year diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology: or a valid Journeyperson Electrician certificate, or equivalent as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and industry Training Board
• Preferred candidate would hold a Master Electrician Certification as well as a IMSA Traffic Signal Sr. Field Technician III Certification.
• International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA)- Certified Signal Field Technician II or Level III with three years (3) of practical experience in electrical and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in traffic signal maintenance.
• A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
• Knowledge of Econolite and Intelight traffic systems.
• Experience in networking, wireless communication, and Ethernet.
• Knowledge of relay components and logic, fibre switching, and Direct Current (DC) power systems is required.
• Considerable knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and the National Manufacturers Electrical Association (NEMA).
• Ability to work well and exercise good judgement and diplomacy under pressure, while dealing with multiple interested parties, responsibilities, and projects.
• Must be able to work well, independently, and collaborate cohesively within a team environment.

Additional Information:

This is a full‑time position, scheduled for 40 hours per week.

Work Environment:
This position will perform work in an outdoor environment, with exposure to various heights, weather conditions, confined space, noise, roadways, electrical and mechanical hazards.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. Must have the ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate a personal computer, office equipment and a motor vehicle; the ability to talk and hear in person or by phone; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports. Must be able to work an occasional nightshift when a project repair requires.
