Job Description

Come grow with us! The City of Beaumont is looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Strategist to join our Communications team within the Communications & Information Technology Services (COMITs) department. Do you enjoy leading with strategy while rolling up your sleeves to deliver results? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where your advice is trusted, and your work makes an impact? Do you enjoy guiding others while taking the lead on high-profile, complex files? If so, this could be your next step.

Our Communications team is highly collaborative, professional, and passionate about supporting the vision of a growing, vibrant, and spirited community. We are not a big team, but we are a bold one. Whether we are rolling out a new initiative or supporting a long-standing service, we know when to push boundaries and when consistency matters. We move with purpose, think creatively, and take pride in delivering work that informs, connects, and adds value to how people experience our city.

This is a 24-month term position with a dedicated focus on communications support for the Planning and Development department. Beaumont is entering a period of transformative growth-related policy work, including a comprehensive review of the Municipal Development Plan (MDP), Land Use Bylaw (LUB), and intermunicipal planning frameworks. You will serve as the primary communications resource for these files, working closely with planners and project teams to deliver clear, proactive, and community-focused communications on some of the City’s most high-profile initiatives. You will be trusted to take the lead, bring your ideas to the table, and help shape the work in a place that values strategy, heart, and the people behind the message.

What YOU’RE Responsible for:

  • Leading the development and execution of communications and marketing strategies in collaboration with internal and external departments, taking projects from concept to completion.
  • Researching, writing, editing, and delivering content for a variety of mediums, including social media, websites, advertising, news releases, speeches, public reports, and presentations, while keeping messages clear and aligned with the City’s brand.
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to leadership and departments by providing counsel on communications, reputation, and issues management, including monitoring emerging issues and developing timely, thoughtful mitigation strategies.
  • Using data and performance measures to develop effective strategies and solutions backed by evidence.
  • Supporting the development of public reports, including drafting and editing content, coordinating graphic design, and aligning messages with the City’s brand.
  • Advising on and supporting public consultation and engagement efforts by collaborating with departments and partners, developing surveys and materials, and being present at events or open houses when needed.
  • Serving as the dedicated communications lead for Planning and Development, including developing communications plans and providing communications support for public engagement on major planning initiatives, translating complex planning concepts into accessible public-facing content, supporting the improvement of P&D web content, and establishing proactive community notification approaches for development applications and growth-related decisions.
  • Assisting the department in identifying communications opportunities and leading them to effective key messaging to meet target audience needs with engaging content.
  • Identifying and recommending efficient processes and solutions
  • Other duties as assigned

What YOU Bring:

Education and Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or other related discipline – equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum six (6) years of progressively responsible, more complex communications experience
