The Opportunity:


We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Senior Recreation Centres Operator to join the Parks & Recreation. The Senior Recreation Centres Operator, under the supervision of the Recreation Centres Team Leader, provides day to day operational support to the Recreation Centres team and ensures work assigned is completed. This position ensures the safety and cleanliness of the facility and provides exceptional customer service to all patrons. This position supports the Team Leader in the execution of service levels, business centre plans and Corporate Business Plans and ensures that activities are conducted in accordance with OHS and Town Standards. This position may be located at either Okotoks Recreation Centre, Viking Rentals Centre (Arenas) or Viking Rentals Centre (Events Hall), but will be expected to cross train and provide back up to all centres.


The Senior Recreation Centres Operator will be primarily working out of the Okotoks Recreation Centre and is responsible for:
  • Provide day to day operational support to other team members (first point of contact);
  • Acting as support to leader in ensuring work assignments are completed by other team members;
  • Provide recommendation on efficiencies for shift schedules and draft final schedules for leader approval;
  • Conduct training, orientation and mentoring of other team members;
  • Support recruitment and provide recommendations to leader;
  • Responsible for complex assignments or tasks;
  • Review work of other team members and provide feedback ;
  • Provide input and support execution of service levels, business centre plans, and Corporate Business Plan as required;
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, handling complaints as per process, and resolving issues;
  • Provide assistance to user groups for special event set-up/tear down;
  • Open and close Recreation Centres, provide basic security and crowd control, and general security support;
  • Assist in regular servicing and maintenance of facility equipment to ensure reliable operation, including furnaces, exhaust fans, pumps, refrigeration sys tem, sprinkler system, emergency lighting, alarm system, boilers, make-up air units where applicable;
  • Assist in electrical maintenance, replacement of lights, score clocks, PA system, minor plumbing and structural repairs, etc.;
  • Operation of small equipment for snow removal;
  • Assist with scheduling, promoting and attend safety training at Recreation Centres;
  • Ensure Occupational Health & Safety Administrative Guideline is followed within the Recreation Centres, including first aid procedures;
  • Monitor the condition of the Recreation Centre to prevent accidents or injuries. Bring up any concerns to Recreation Centres Team Leader;
  • Handle emergency situations as per protocol;
  • Arenas:
  o Proficient operation of the ice-resurfacing machine (Olympia) and power edger to ensure Arena ice surfaces are maintained, including ice making, re moval and maintenance;
  • Provide process documentation for consistency in Recreation Centres services and support, thus may include but not limited to obtaining permits, ap provals and/or authorizations;
  • Provide specialized administration duties relating to Recreation Centres as assigned, such as maintaining records of facility usage, as well as logs and records of miscellaneous building activities and machinery;
  • Projects as assigned.


What You Bring:


Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is equivalency to:
  • Diploma in Recreation Facility Management or related field;
  • Arena Operator Level 2 certification;
  • 5 or more years related work experience representing continuous learning and career progression, including at least one year experience in indirect su pervision and/or leadership/mentorship experience;
  • Proven experience managing projects, and mentoring staff;
  • High-level ability to analyze complex data and provide actionable insights;
  • Exceptional communication and conflict resolution skills;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and position relevant software.
