Roads Superintendent
The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the permanent full-time role of Roads Superintendent to provide Leadership and Supervision to the Roads section of the Parks & Public Works Team. The Roads Superintendent is responsible for the overall supervision, direction and safety of the Roads Section. This role leads a team of subject matter experts in the fulfilment of department services.
- This position is responsible for shaping section deliverables into outcomes including the scheduling and coordination of maintenance programs such as: road repairs, lane grading/restoration, sidewalks/curbs, crack sealing, bridge maintenance, downtown furniture set-up & take down, pothole repairs, flood control snow/ice, street sweeping activities, street line painting, sign management and traffic control.
- Other administrative responsibilities include section culture leadership, emergency operations logistics lead, public education, media relations, contract administration, analytical analysis for value engineering and operational efficiency, budgeting, report creation and Program/Policy/Procedure development.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology
- Certified Engineering Technologist or Applied Science Technologist registered with Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists
- Five years’ progressively responsible experience with road construction and maintenance including snow & ice control,
- Experience in project management would be a considerable asset
- Other combinations of education and experience will be considered
- Knowledge of road construction and maintenance practices
- Knowledge of sign manufacture and installation practices
- Supervisory experience in a diverse and fast paced environment with changing priorities.
- Operational Report Writing
- Knowledge of Computer systems such as MS Office 365 including JD Edwards, GIS software and other relevant software.
