Planner
As a Planner 1, you’ll play a key supporting role in both current and long-range planning initiatives. Under the mentorship of the Planning & Development Manager, you’ll assist with land use planning projects, subdivision applications, and the development of statutory and non-statutory plans. You’ll also help interpret and apply the Land Use Bylaw, contribute to planning reports, and support public engagement efforts.
This position is ideal for someone looking to build a strong foundation in municipal planning while working collaboratively with internal departments, developers, and the public to ensure planning decisions align with community goals and provincial legislation.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with land use planning and subdivision applications
- Support Development Officers in interpreting the Land Use Bylaw
- Contribute to planning reports and policy development
- Participate in reviewing Area Structure Plans and related documents
- Engage with internal teams, developers, and the public
- Support public engagement activities and attend meetings
- Respond to planning inquiries and provide general information
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a related field.
- Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Alberta’s Municipal Government Act and planning regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new digital tools.
- Up to 3 years of planning experience in a municipal setting (an asset).
- Experience presenting to Council (an asset).
Additional Requirements
- Minimum 18 years of age
- RCMP Criminal Record Check
- Valid Driver’s License with current Driver’s Abstract
