OHS Advisor

At the Town of Stony Plain, our goal is to promote a safe and healthy workplace that enables everyone to go home each day in the same condition in which they arrived. We are currently recruiting an experienced Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Advisor to lead, shape, and elevate our health and safety program which supports and protects the physical, psychological and social well-being of our workers, contractors, volunteers, property and members of the public.
Reporting to the Manager of Human Resource Services, the Advisor will play a key role in maintaining a compliant, responsive, and safety focused workplace. The Advisor will champion a positive safety culture by supporting leadership and workers, guiding the implementation of OHS legislation, standards, policies and procedures, and ensuring alignment with our organizational values and goals.
We are seeking a candidate who:

Has a clear understanding of relevant OHS legislation, Regulations, Code, and industry standards, with a sound understanding of municipal operations, policies and objectives

Demonstrates a strong familiarity with AMHSA and COR Program administration

Is confident in conducting audits, managing WCB claims, and driving safety improvements

Has experience overseeing OHS training & development, and conducting safety orientations.

Has sound judgement and is highly ethical

Demonstrates personal leadership, collaboration, and service excellence with the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to advance safety initiatives across the organization

Exhibits excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate issues and influence outcomes

Possesses strong planning and organizing abilities, with effective analytical, risk assessment and decision-making skills

Has the ability to foster positive relationships with various stakeholders, both internal and external to the organization
Education and Experience:
- Related post-secondary diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety
- Preference given to candidates with Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) Designation or in process of obtaining,
- Minimum 5 years of OH&S related experience including program management, contractor safety management

Municipal or public experience considered an asset

Experience administering Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program

Flexible work arrangements
The salary range for this position is $81,389 - $103,549 per annum. The current work week is based on 35 hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. The option to participate in the flexible work arrangement may be available. The Town offers an excellent benefits package including the Local Authorities Pension Plan.
