POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Junior Municipal Engineer will have knowledge and familiarity with the design and construction of municipal infrastructure, with the ability to follow directions and ask questions to learn and apply to the work. This position will support the day-to-day tasks by assisting the team during peak construction, as well as provide technical support and services in all areas of engineering. The incumbent will ensure that assets are tracked within the appropriate programs to be able to build the necessary reports for current and future planning of rehabilitation and replacement. As well update of the GIS system to reflect new assets and changes to existing assets. This position reports to the Senior Municipal Infrastructure Engineer.

This is a full-time, permanent position. The salary range is: $80,134.60 - $95,258.80.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Asset Management and Capital Planning
  • Conduct analysis required to support the development of short and long-term capital plans for core infrastructure assets.
  • Collaborate with Road and Utility Operations staff to verify the development of short and long-term capital plans.
  • Take a lead role in the update of asset data repositories relating to core infrastructure assets through utilization of the City’s asset management software (Cartegraph) and GIS.
  • Assist the City’s GIS staff in aligning the City’s asset management systems and GIS databases.
  • Research and implement inspection/condition rating methodologies for all core infrastructure assets.
  • Assist in the development of risk modelling, levels of service performance measures, and lifecycle analysis and costing techniques to improve the City’s overall asset management framework.
  1. Engineering Projects and Reporting
  • Lead assigned projects relating to asset inventory and condition assessment updates carried out by external parties. This includes the concept planning, preparation of RFP’s, selection and management of engineering consultants, general project management, and review of deliverables.
  • Assist in the data collection and database updating for tangible capital assets.
  • Support the annual Offsite Levy model update through assisting with the preparation of data inputs and draft reporting.
  • Provide input and produce engineering reports and other documentation.
  • General CADD work and plan/report review.
  • Contribute to the collection, processing, and interpretation of technical data related to civil engineering projects.
  • Perform a wide range of tasks to support business priorities.
  • Coordinate with the various departments on projects requiring engineering input and assistance.
