Public Works – Fleet Technician
Full Time – Monday to Friday 40 hrs/week
Wage Range - $38.05 - $45.44


SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
The Fleet Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing fleet vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Inspect, maintain, and repair fleet vehicles with diesel, gas, or electric engines, as required, and as recommended by the manufacturer including, but not limited to, graders, garbage trucks, loaders, skid-steers, pickup trucks, and dump trucks
• Inspect, maintain, and repair equipment as required as recommended by the manufacturer including, but not limited to, bucket lifts, cranes, pumps, generators, line painters, various hand tools (pneumatic, electric, hydraulic), and plate tampers.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using diagnostic tools and testing equipment
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections including, but not limited to, oil changes, CVIP inspections, lubrication, filters inspection and changes, and bulb replacements
• Inspect fleet vehicles for defects, wear, or malfunctions and repair as necessary
• Complete work orders, maintenance records, and documentation accurately using the Town’s asset management software
• Conduct basic welding, fabrication, and modification as required
• Maintain a safe work environment by following all safe work practices, policies, and procedures
• Perform fleet vehicle or equipment repairs indoors or outdoors when required
• Maintain an inventory for basic parts and fluids for fleet vehicles and equipment
• Basic ability to safely operate all types of fleet vehicles and equipment to perform diagnostics or troubleshooting
• Ensure that new vehicles are registered, insured, and entered in the asset management software prior to use
• Assist the Operations Manager with specifications during the Request for Proposal process
• Provide after-hours on-call services on a rotational basis
• Provide your own tools for the job


TRAINING, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
• High School Diploma (or equivalent)
• Heavy Equipment Technician (Journeyperson)
• Minimum 3 years of related municipal experience
• valid Alberta Class 1 or 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement
• First Aid with CPR
• RCMP Based Criminal Record Check as deemed acceptable by The Town
 

To be successful in this role, candidates will need to be physically fit for laborious work outdoors and able to lift up to 50 lbs. Only safety minded individuals with proven customer service abilities and a positive team oriented attitude will be considered.
