The Town of Whitecourt Infrastructure Services Department is presently seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill the following temporary, summer position. This position reports to the Infrastructure Services Manager or designate
The Engineering Summer Student will assist in engineering surveys, design review, permitting, inspections, traffic counts, data input and analysis and asset verification, as well as other related assignments
Key duties will include:

Conduct traffic counts and turning movement studies to support the Town’s roadway program and Pavement management program.

Conduct sidewalk inspections as required and assist with road and drainage surveys.

Assist with contract administration and site inspections.

Use Autodesk (Civil 3D) software to review road, drainage, utilities and earthworks projects.

Apply understanding of all phases of planning, design and construction process.

Support development of technical documentation including reports, presentations, memos, calculation packages and specifications.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Post-Secondary education in Engineering or other related field

Ability to understand storm water drainage principles and a good understanding of Civil Engineering practices;

Ability to understand survey principles and operate basic survey equipment

Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs

Class 5 driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract
Physical Demands and Work Conditions for this position include:
- Occasionally lift materials up to 30 lbs. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, computer use, and administrative tasks.
- Possibility of confined space entry, following all safety protocols and procedures.
- Work may be performed in all-weather conditions, including heat, cold rain, and snow.
- Tasks may occur on uneven or slippery surfaces.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required when conducting on-field duties
