Director, Public Works
The City of Beaumont is growing and so is our newly established Public Works department! Are you a strategic and people-focused leader who thrives in dynamic operational environments? The City of Beaumont is seeking a Director, Public Works to provide strategic and operational leadership for roads and sidewalks, drainage, snow removal and street cleaning, parks and open spaces, fleet and facilities maintenance, utilities, solid waste, and transit operations. This newly established department offers an exciting opportunity to shape organizational culture, service delivery, and long-term operational strategy within a rapidly growing municipality.
What YOU’RE Responsible for:
- Providing strategic and operational leadership for Public Works services, programs, and operational planning.
- Leading the development and execution of departmental operational plans, budgets, service standards, and performance measures.
- Overseeing roads, drainage, parks, fleet, facilities, utilities, transit, and environmental public works operations.
- Ensuring operational programs align with asset management principles, regulatory requirements, corporate priorities, and community expectations.
- Leading financial planning, forecasting, budget management, and operational reporting for the department.
Building and leading a high-performing, engaged, and accountable team culture focused on service excellence and continuous improvement. - Providing leadership and support to managers and supervisors through coaching, mentorship, workforce planning, and performance management.
- Supporting organizational change initiatives and fostering innovation, collaboration, and operational modernization.
- Building strong relationships with residents, contractors, developers, regional partners, agencies, and other levels of government.
- Providing strategic advice and recommendations to the Deputy CAO, Senior Leadership Team, and Council on operational and public works matters.
- Supporting long-term operational sustainability through strategic planning, operational coordination, and service optimization.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, safety standards, and corporate directives.
- Participating in the City’s Health and Safety Program and promoting a positive safety culture throughout the department.
What YOU Bring:
- A university degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field; OR A related diploma combined with significant progressively responsible leadership experience in municipal operations, public works, infrastructure, or a related field; OR An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A professional designation relevant to public works, operations, engineering, or leadership (e.g., P.Eng., CET, PMP, or equivalent) is considered an asset.
- Supplementary education or training in leadership, municipal administration, asset management, infrastructure planning, or project management is considered an asset.
- Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in municipal operations, public works, utilities, roads, fleet, infrastructure, or related operational environments, including leadership experience.
- Experience leading operational teams, managing budgets, and overseeing complex municipal service delivery functions.
- Strong knowledge of municipal governance, public administration, asset management principles, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Experience working within a political environment and supporting senior leadership and Council.
- Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, build relationships, and influence strategic outcomes.
- Strong communication, leadership, financial, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to navigate competing priorities, operational pressures, political dynamics, and sensitive issues with professionalism and tact.
What WE Offer:
- A salary range of $131,931.80 to $172,153.80 per annum (based on experience and qualifications)
