ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re searching for an experienced Director of Finance who can lead with both strategic insight and approachability. This role is perfect for someone who’s confident in their financial leadership, comfortable navigating change, and able to bring a grounded, collaborative attitude to the table. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), you will oversee the finance department and be responsible for financial affairs, the municipal assessment and taxation process and banking operations for the Town of Fox Creek, ensuring the accuracy, integrity and efficiency of financial processes, reporting and compliance. You’ll manage and mentor 4 direct reports, oversee day-to-day operations, and support internal departments in meeting their fiduciary responsibilities.
SOME OF WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead the organization’s financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes with accuracy and clarity.
- Liaise with and provide timely, accurate and comprehensive financial information to the CAO and Directors to support long-term planning.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant accounting standards, audits, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, develop, and implement opportunities to modernize processes, improve efficiency, maintain integrity of records, enhance systems and support internal controls.
- Establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with the CAO, senior leadership team, and Council based on mutual respect.
- Attend Council meetings and present as required.
- Oversee asset management.
- Oversee administration of grants and information management.

WHAT YOU BRING
- An acceptable Criminal Record Check
- An acceptable Driver’s Abstract
- A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
- A post-graduate university degree is preferred
- A professional accounting designation (CPA) is considered an asset
- Proven leadership skills with 5 to 7 years of senior management experience in the areas of finance, accounting and administration.
- Excellent working knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal finance.
- Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and other legislative and procedural requirements.
- Experience working in a Municipal Environment is preferred.
- Microsoft Office Suite skills.
- Excellent English communication skills including written, verbal/interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- A leadership style that’s grounded, supportive, and adaptable.
- A genuine appreciation for teamwork and a positive workplace culture.
- Ability to develop and nurture productive and positive business relationships with internal and external partners.
- Ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential matters.
- Effective organizational and time managements skills.
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy with your work.
