Development Supervisor

The Town of Stony Plain is seeking a motivated and committed leader to join our team as the Development Supervisor. Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Development, this role is responsible for leading a team of Development staff; oversight of the administration, monitoring, and enforcement of the Land Use Bylaw; and managing the overall land development process. 

We are seeking a candidate who:

• Leads and supports a development team and the implementation of a new electronic permitting and licensing software project;

• Oversees, supports, monitors and participates, where warranted, in the annual Land Use Bylaw update and development related matters, such as development permits, development enforcement and compliance, development inquires, legal document preparation and development-related financial matters; 

• Manages current planning functions, including processing subdivision applications, development-related bylaws, development agreements and subdivision endorsements. 

• Liaises with internal and external stakeholders such as developers, Town departments, and government agencies to ensure cohesive decision making. 

• Provides expert guidance and public service by responding to inquiries, interpreting planning regulations, and representing the Town at Council and appeal board meetings.  

• Demonstrates knowledge of Safety Codes and engineering practices related to land development (preferred).

Education and Experience:

• Completion of a Degree in Land Use Planning or related discipline.

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in land use planning, development or both, preferably in an urban municipal setting.

• Supervisory experience is preferred. 

• Proficient experience using ArcGIS is preferred.

• An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered. 

The salary range for this position is $87,494 - $111,316 per annum.  The current work week is based on 35 hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. The Town offers an excellent benefits package including the Local Authorities Pension Plan.
