The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a Capital Projects Coordinator - Utilities to fill a permanent full-time position. The Capital Projects Coordinator is responsible for the successful integration of new processes or equipment into existing Environmental Services operations and maintenance activities. This position provides input during facility/project design including scoping studies and the conceptual design, predesign, design and procurement stages. Will also be responsible for coordination with Operations and Maintenance Leads on construction activities and scheduling, commissioning, and construction or warranty deficiencies. The Capital Projects Coordinator is the site contact for the contractors and consultants, and where applicable, to ensure compliance with the established policies and procedures, OH&S, and the AEPA Approval to Operate.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- An Engineering Technologist Diploma (required)
- Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist with Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists.
- 5 years of Project Coordination experience in a Level III or IV water, wastewater or comparable industrial environment
- Successfully pass all required safety courses and others to be defined by the province or by the City
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license
- The following would be considered an asset:
- Project management certificate or diploma
- A combination of education and experience may be considered including: Unrestricted Level III Alberta Environment Operators Certificate or Journeyperson Trades Ticket with additional experience in project management.
- Ability to work unsupervised and co-operate with colleagues as a team, to understand and follow instructions, and to provide guidance and instructions to junior staff and contractors.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City Departments, consultants, contractors, and their representatives.
- Well-developed verbal, computer, and written communications skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer aptitude including demonstrated proficiency with City based computer programs, databases, spreadsheets, and word-processing software.
- Must be able to understand complex technical specifications and read and understand detailed project plans and drawings
- This position has significant impact upon the success of multimillion-dollar projects at every stage of the project, including design, contractor selection processes, implementation, construction, commissioning and post-commissioning evaluation and final documentation
- Must be familiar with contract administrative control systems
- This position is responsible for ensuring that project risk assessments and reliable contingency plans are communicated to and coordinated with all stakeholders
- This position ensures compliance with all policies relating to vendor/contractor procurement and selection processes for major projects and for asset identification and recording
- Understand and ensure applicable industry best practices and compliance to The City’s Approval to Operates are followed.
- Strong analytical skills
- Understanding of electrical, instrumentation, HVAC, plumbing, pipefitting, millwright and construction practices
