Calculating Alberta’s Municipal Infrastructure Deficit
As part of Alberta Municipalities’ campaign on Property Taxes Reimagined: Fair Funding for Strong Communities, we are seeking member support to estimate the current municipal infrastructure deficit in Alberta.
To accomplish this, we are asking members to share with us any available reports related to your municipal asset inventory, asset valuation, or asset management plan.
- Asset inventory report – typically describes the type of assets, acquisition date/cost, and condition information.
- Asset valuation report – typically includes historical cost, depreciated value, and replacement value.
- Asset management plan – typically includes the asset inventory, condition, level of service/performance, risk assessment, lifecycle management, financial planning, and maintenance/operating strategies.
What will ABmunis do with these reports?
We are working with a consultant who will use all reports to analyze and estimate Alberta’s municipal infrastructure deficit. The findings of this research will create a clear, evidence-based picture of Alberta’s municipal infrastructure needs that ABmunis will use to inform the public and provincial leaders about the challenge that councils face.
Will our municipality’s data remain confidential?
Yes. The reports you share will only be seen by ABmunis and any consultants used by ABmunis. The results of the analysis will only be reported in aggregate and by municipal class, so your municipality’s individual data remains private.
What format will ABmunis accept?
We don’t want to create work for your team, so whatever format you have these reports in, we will use them (e.g. PDF, Word, Excel, etc.).
