Update from the legislature – November 5, 2025

New legislation introduced 

On October 30 the Minister of Environment and Protected Areas introduced Bill 7, the Water Amendment Act. The Act makes several amendments related to the use of alternative water sources, lower risk inter-basin transfers, and sets measurement and reporting expectations for all water licence holders. For a more detailed analysis, please see this article. 

Bill 4, the, Public Safety and Emergency Services Statutes Amendment Act, 2025, was also introduced on October 30. The legislation proposes actions to help operationalize the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service, strengthening reporting provisions under Clare’s Law, and updates provisions for the transfer of prisoners between jurisdictions.
