Bill 7 Water Amendment Act

ABmunis is pleased to see that the province has responded to long-standing calls for stronger water measurement and reporting requirements. Bill 7, the Water Amendment Act, builds on the Government of Alberta’s water availability engagements held earlier this year. Tabled in the legislature last Thursday, October 30, the proposed legislation aims to streamline regulatory processes, enhance water monitoring and transparency, and support the use of alternative water sources across the province.

ABmunis will continue to collaborate with the Government of Alberta and our members to simplify reporting processes and ensure municipalities can effectively use this data to inform local decision-making.

We have heard members' concerns about the proposed approach to inter-basin transfers, even those considered low risk. While many of these transfers support regional water and wastewater systems, they still require careful consideration. Over the coming months, we’ll continue engaging with our members to better understand your concerns and identify how we can best support as these changes progress.
