Next EPR Virtual Session – December 10, 2021

Alberta Environment and Parks' next Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) virtual session is on December 10, 2021, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. To register, please email Angele.Vickers [at] gov.ab.ca (Angele[dot]Vickers[at]gov[dot]ab[dot]ca). The virtual session is part of the ministry’s ongoing dialogue with municipalities to discuss further the opportunities and implications of EPR programs.

In spring 2021, the Government of Alberta collected feedback on designing an EPR framework for single-use plastics, packaging, paper products, and hazardous and special products for Alberta. The ministry has released the "What We Heard" report and introduced Bill 83, the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Amendment Act, to create an EPR Framework.

Alberta Environment and Parks encourages municipalities to review the "What We Heard" report and send further input by email to aep.recyclingregulation [at] gov.ab.ca (aep[dot]recyclingregulation[at]gov[dot]ab[dot]ca). The ministry will be accepting comments by email until January 14, 2022.

We support the ministry in moving forward with an EPR framework. Municipalities have asked for these programs since 2018, and we look forward to being part of this discussion with the provincial government. Please visit the Waste Management Hub for more information about Alberta Municipalities' research and submission on EPR .
