Make every meeting count

At some point, we’ve all been sitting in a meeting thinking to ourselves, “This meeting could have been an email.” How can you make sure that no one is sitting in YOUR meeting thinking that? Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) is here for you with a pre-Convention course designed to help you make meetings effective and efficient.  

In the EOEP: Effective Meetings course, held on September 22 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., participants will explore: 

• The role of meetings in municipal governance, 

• Understand how meeting rules and procedures support council’s work, and 

• Strengthen practical skills related to motions, debate, conduct and decision-making. 

The course examines the distinct responsibilities of the chair and council members and provides strategies to navigate common meeting challenges while maintaining professionalism and public confidence. 

Through practical examples, discussion and application exercises, elected officials will strengthen their ability to contribute meaningfully at the council table and support meetings that are focused, respectful and effective.
