Explore population trends on June 20

A FREE online seminar will explore Alberta Municipalities' latest Future of Municipal Government (FOMG) paper on Monday, June 20, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Join author Kevin McQuillan from the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy for a discussion of his paper, entitled Population Growth and Population Aging in Alberta Municipalities. Click here to register.

McQuillan examines trends in population growth and decline in municipalities across Alberta over the decade and outlines key factors that have driven those trends. He also opens the door to a conversation about how municipalities can attract and retain residents.

Solutions such as attracting new industries and providing access to essential services (e.g., healthcare and high-speed internet) require inter-municipal collaboration. The benefits of collaboration were discussed in the inaugural FOMG paper and webinar on Organizing Canadian Local Government.

We developed a quick survey to seek your feedback on the ideas presented in the paper. Our Advocacy team would like to hear from you about whether inter-municipal collaboration frameworks (ICFs) are delivering cost savings and other benefits in your region.

Share your thoughts and experiences with ICFs by answering question seven of this survey by Friday, June 17. The survey's design allows you to share your thoughts on just one or all the questions.
