Drayton Valley faces growing financial pressure
Our Property Taxes Reimagined series is shining a light on the cumulative factors that are driving up property taxes. One example is the current rules for treating wastewater is forcing the Town of Drayton Valley to spend $23.8 million to upgrade their wastewater system. The Town is fortunate that the Government of Alberta has committed to cover $5.8 million of the cost but that still leaves $18 million to be covered by their community of 7,300 people. To put it into context, the cost is almost 1.5 times what the Town collected in municipal property taxes last year.
