Mechanic III (Fleet Maintenance Technician)

This position reports to Manager of Works, or in his/her absence the Director of Infrastructure.
This position is responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of the Town’s fleet and related equipment. Must be prepared to work overtime and be on call as required.
Key duties will include:
- Repairs and service work to all equipment as required.
- Ensure that proper maintenance and records for all equipment, as required, is in place.
- Developing, updating, and following extensive preventative maintenance programs.
- Ensuring a required inventory of parts for daily operations.
- Preparation of year-end operational materials inventory.
- Assist with required equipment replacement, general repair, and maintenance budget
- Supply and maintain an up-to-date set of hand tools
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Must be a qualified and licensed Automotive Mechanic, preferably with knowledge and experience with Heavy Duty and specialized municipal mobile and protection equipment.
- Must be willing and capable of obtaining a Journeyman license in Heavy Duty or other available upgrading in related fields as required by the Town.
- Experience with and knowledge of equipment maintenance programs and parts inventory systems
- Must possess a valid Class 3 Driver’s license with Q endorsement.
- Ability to weld and fabricate
Physical Demands and Work Conditions for this position include:
- Frequent lifting of materials up to 60 lbs.
- Standing, forward bending, trunk rotation, reaching above shoulder level and crouching is required
- Repetitive movements like tire install, removing parts and moving portable hoist
- Tasks are performed on concrete and uneven surfaces
- Some work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions
