At Strathcona County, our Fleet team plays a critical role in ensuring our community runs smoothly from keeping buses on the road to supporting emergency response and infrastructure maintenance. This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position up to 13 months

(This temporary assignment may offer the possibility of extension or future permanent opportunities. Any continuation will be evaluated based on operational requirements and will be subject to the established competitive posting process and applicable collective agreement provisions.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance, service, and repair work on a wide variety of vehicles, buses, and heavy equipment supporting County operations
  • Apply your trade expertise to ensure fleet reliability, safety, and operational readiness
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a collaborative team environment
  • Provide guidance and direction to Apprentices and support their development
  • Complete detailed and accurate work orders and documentation
  • Maintain efficiency and quality standards to support uninterrupted service delivery


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Licensed Journeyperson Heavy Duty On-Road and Off-Road Mechanic/Heavy Equipment Technician
  • Licensed Red Seal would be considered an asset
  • Experience working on Transit and Coach buses would be considered an asset (Nova, Alexander Denis, and New Flyer)
  • Basic computer experience
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of equipment repair practices, procedures and preventative maintenance requirements
  • Knowledge of current electronic diagnostic programs for chassis and body systems
  • Ability to work with a large group and train apprentices with limited supervision
  • Ability to work autonomously, demonstrating the ability to perform tasks independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge and experience with working in a Fleet Management Program
  • Automotive experience would be considered an asset


Conditions of Employment:

  • Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Q endorsement is preferred
  • Ability to achieve Provincial Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) status
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts and overtime may be required
  • Ability to be on-call (1 week per rotation)
