FCSS Family Wellness Worker
The Athabasca County Family & Community Support Services Program is currently accepting applications for a full-time Family Wellness Worker. This is a term position to June 30, 2028, with a possible extension dependent on funding. This Worker will provide services in Athabasca and surrounding area as part of the Northern Lakes Family Resource Network.
The Family Wellness Program is a voluntary, community-based program that supports individuals and families facing multiple risk factors that could escalate without support. The Family Wellness Worker assists families and youth develop skills to maintain positive relationships and a safe, healthy home environment while helping navigate community resources. A degree or diploma in the human services field, as well as a criminal record check (vulnerable population) and child intervention record check from Children & Family Services are required.
Description Summary:
The Family Wellness Worker provides solution-focused and client-centered support services for youth and families experiencing multiple risk factors that may escalate without support. Services are designed to address challenges and achieve goals by improving the knowledge and skills required to build positive relationships and maintain a safe and healthy home environment. The Worker uses a variety of evidence-informed/supported and best practice approaches, including one-to one and targeted group work to assist clients in meeting their goals. The Family Wellness Worker also supports clients in navigating appropriate community resources and services.
Position Duties:
Under direction from the Wellness Team Lead, the duties of the position will include the following:
- Assess individual and family needs and goals to determine the level of support required.
- To work with individuals and families to develop solution-focused goals and preventive action plans.
- Manage client caseloads, open new files, monitor and evaluate client progress, and close completed client files.
- Meet with clients in their homes, in the FCSS office, or in the community to provide family support, resources and information.
- Develop and maintain consistent and accurate records regarding client contacts, consultations, and referrals.
- Complete all necessary reporting requirements outlined in the Children & Family Services grant agreement.
- Be an active participant in the FCSS Wellness Team.
- Develop and maintain positive and informed relationships within the Northern Lakes Family Resource Network, and with other service providers, agencies, and community groups.

Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Human Services, Education or related field is required.
- Minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience working with children and families.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience dealing with a variety of issues affecting families.
- Demonstrates strong ethics in decision making with knowledge of confidentiality, Protection of Privacy Act, Access to Information Act, and Children First Act.
- Current/updated Suicide Intervention and Standard First Aid and CPR is required. Additional training in Diversity and Cultural Awareness, Youth Development and Trauma Informed Practice is considered an asset.
- An RCMP Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector) and Child Intervention Record Check from Children & Family Services will be required.
- Crisis intervention, problem solving, conflict and mediation skills are required.
- Strong verbal & written communication skills, organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Case management/professional documentation skills.
- Time management, goal setting, service planning and implementation are key skills.
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with business insurance, as this position involves traveling.
