Update on 2027 convention host

In 2024, the Alberta Municipalities Convention and Trade Show returned to the City of Red Deer. We are grateful for the hard work and collaboration demonstrated by the entire City of Red Deer team during the planning and execution of the event, an event that would not have been possible without their support.

Member feedback indicated that the distance between host venues and partnering hotels limited the ability for spontaneous networking opportunities, which is a valued part of the Convention experience. Limited meeting room space created challenges for Ministers and municipal leaders to meet onsite for stakeholder engagement. Feedback from ministerial staff indicated that private meeting space will be a priority in selecting future venues. Sponsors noted a preference for locations with a greater range of venue options for hosting evening networking receptions. Attendees commented that they enjoy the walkability and concentrated hospitality options available in some other host cities, which they feel contribute to the overall Convention experience.

Based on this feedback, we will continue to alternate our Convention and Trade Show between Edmonton and Calgary, including hosting for 2026 and 2027 at the Edmonton Convention Centre.

Alberta Municipalities values the strong partnership with the City of Red Deer, and we remain committed to returning to the community for future events. We are working alongside the city’s team to host a Summer Municipal Leaders’ Caucus in 2026 and look forward to exploring additional opportunities for future collaboration.
