Report Card on 2024 Resolutions Now Available
Alberta Municipalities’ Report Card on the 2024 Resolutions lets you know the status of our advocacy efforts on the 23 resolutions from last year’s Convention that were passed.
Each resolution was forwarded to the Government of Alberta for its response. ABmunis’ committees and Board of Directors have reviewed the provincial government’s responses and prioritized our advocacy for each.
Here are some highlights from this year’s report card:
Creation of the Provincial Fire Liaison Committee
Members called for the provincial government to establish a wildfire prevention committee. In March 2025, we were pleased when a Provincial Fire Liaison Committee was created. ABmunis has a representative on the committee and looks forward to sharing updates on its work.
Restoring Provincial Grants in Place of Taxes (GIPOT) funding
Members asked us to advocate for the reinstatement of full funding under the GIPOT program. The provincial government responded by funding municipalities at 75 per cent of the assessed value of provincial properties in 2025 and will fund at 100 per cent in 2026. While we were successful in advocating for full reinstatement of GIPOT funding, we were surprised to see the provincial government eliminate its Local Growth and Sustainability Grant after just one year of funding.
Goldfish infestation and emergency approval of Power-Form Rotenone pesticide
We shared an update on this resolution in our July 3 article called Rotenone Returns: It’s a Bad Day to be a Goldfish!
In addition to our report cards, you can search the status of all past resolutions in our online resolutions library.
The resolution book for ABmunis’ 2025 Convention will be published next month.
