Provincial Emergency Stockpile for municipalities

Municipalities across Alberta can access a Provincial Emergency Stockpile to support response efforts when local resources are insufficient. Housed in Foothills County, the stockpile is available to Local Authorities during emergencies.

The stockpile includes a range of equipment such as pumps, generators, light towers, message boards, culvert plugs, Tiger Dams, sandbags, PPE, and other flood and emergency response tools.

To request equipment, municipalities must submit a request through their AEMA Field Officer or the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC), with approval required from the PECC Director. While equipment is provided at no cost, municipalities are responsible for transportation, operation, maintenance, and return.

Communities are encouraged to keep the stockpile in mind as a backstop when local capacity is stretched, particularly during periods of extreme or prolonged weather events, such as recent heavy rainfall many of us have been experiencing.

Administrators who need support identifying emergency equipment resourcing are encouraged to contact their regional representative, who can help connect them with ABmunis or point them toward other resources that may be available to support their community.
