Pre-Convention session: Understand municipal liability
The idea of liability can be scary. But you can manage risk with good governance, sound decision-making processes, and a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities. The RMRF Legal Session: Demystifying Liability session busts myths about liability and focuses on practical strategies that help councils make confident decisions, protect public trust, and reduce exposure to legal challenges while effectively serving their communities.
On September 22, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., experts from Reynolds Mirth Richards and Farmer LLP will help elected officials understand the legal and governance landscape surrounding municipal liability. We’ll draw on real-world municipal examples and recent legal developments, and have the participants explore the difference between municipal and personal liability, the role of indemnification and insurance, and the circumstances that can expose elected officials to legal, financial, or reputational consequences.
