New resource: Bill 50 & 51 changes for school sites

The Ministry of Education and Childcare, with input from the Ministries of Infrastructure and Municipal Affairs, has developed a Municipalities’ Guide to School Capital Planning to help Alberta Municipalities members understand recent changes to Bills 50 and 51 as they relate to school sites. 

This resource is intended to provide clear, plain-language context on what has changed and what it may mean for municipalities—particularly around school site planning and coordination with provincial partners. We encourage members to review the one-pager and share it with the appropriate staff in your organization. 

Alberta Municipalities will continue working with the province to support member understanding and to flag municipal questions and concerns as implementation continues.
