Municipal voices matter in Alberta's health care future
Learn how to apply to become a Regional Advisory Council member
Health care continues to be one of the top priorities raised by Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) members. Whether through our advocacy survey responses or by filling the largest breakout room at Convention to hear updates from leaders across Alberta's four health ministries, members have made it clear they want a stronger voice in shaping the future of health care in their communities.
Over the past year, ABmunis has been steadily building relationships with Alberta's health ministries and looking for opportunities to ensure municipal perspectives are part of provincial health care discussions. That work has included participation in the Government of Alberta's Rural Health Collaborative Group, direct engagement with health ministers and senior officials, and bringing key health system leaders together with municipal leaders at Convention.
These efforts are creating new opportunities for municipal perspectives to inform provincial health care decisions.
One such opportunity is the recruitment process for Alberta's 14 Regional Health Advisory Councils. Minister Adriana LaGrange specifically reached out to ABmunis and RMA to encourage municipal leaders to apply, recognizing the important role municipalities can play in bringing forward local health care priorities.
The councils were established in July 2025 to provide advice to government and help identify local health care priorities and challenges. Applications are open to community leaders, Albertans receiving health services, health professionals, and elected municipal officials.
Apply by November 23 to join Alberta's Regional Health Advisory Council and bring your community's health care priorities forward.
