More funding for LITP programs announced

The Government of Alberta approved funding to expand the current Low Income Transit Pass (LITP) program to offer additional support to existing municipal low-income transit programs on February 2.

This announcement aligns with a 2022 resolution passed by our members calling on the provincial government to provide operational transit funding for small to medium sized municipalities.

LITP funding is intended to assist individual living on low-income access affordable transit, and to make it easier for families to access jobs, education, health care and community resources. It will only be available to municipalities that already offer a LITP, and it will cover up to 25 per cent of the eligible operating costs of their existing programs.

The provincial government has announced a total funding of $15 million for this initiative, with $6 million being allocated for municipalities with existing low-income transit passes outside of Edmonton and Calgary. Details on how communities can access this funding will be shared directly with eligible communities, and the last day to apply is February 17, 2023.
