Meeting with Minister Wilson
ABmunis CEO Dana Mackie recently met with Mental Health and Addiction Minister Rick Wilson to talk about the Compassionate Intervention Act.
This law, passed on May 15, allows parents, family members, guardians, health professionals, or police to ask for mandatory, involuntary treatment when someone’s substance use puts them or others in danger.
Because municipalities are closest to Albertans, the Compassionate Intervention Act raised questions and concerns among ABmunis members. Minister Wilson and his team answered key questions about how the law will roll out, including timelines, safeguards, and ways for ongoing input. They also committed to joining a future ABmunis session to continue the conversation with our members.
We look forward to working with the government and finding more opportunities to share feedback.
