Local decisions matter: Join the conversation!

Municipal leaders across Alberta are facing important questions about local decision-making, municipal autonomy, and the relationship between municipalities and the Government of Alberta.

On October 28 and 29, Alberta Municipalities invites members and other municipal representatives to help shape that conversation. We’re hosting two Special Virtual Municipal Leaders’ Caucus sessions, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Both Local Decisions Matter sessions will cover the same material, so members only need to attend one.

These aren’t just webinars – they’re opportunities for municipal leaders and administrators from across Alberta to come together, share their experiences, test ideas, and discuss what respectful and effective provincial-municipal relations should look like in the years ahead. Through facilitated discussion and interactive participation tools, attendees will be able to share their perspectives, learn from colleagues, and help identify priorities for the future.

Participants will hear examples from communities throughout Alberta, discuss a proposed set of governance principles, and provide feedback on issues affecting municipalities of all sizes. The feedback gathered during the sessions will help shape future ABmunis advocacy work and a Request for Decision (RFD) planned for the association’s 2027 Spring Municipal Leaders’ Caucus.

Your experiences matter. If local democracy matters to you, we encourage you to join the conversation and help shape a shared municipal voice on an issue that affects communities across Alberta.

Registration for the October 28 and October 29 sessions is now open. We hope you'll be part of the discussion.
