Date/time: Monday, April 24, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Moderator: Leah Seabrook, Strathcona County
Panelists:

Laura Barrett, Simcoe County, ON (Ontario)
David McKenna, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas
Ben Van Nostrand, Columbia Shuswap Regional District, BC (B.C.)
John Watson, Haliburton County, ON (Ontario)
Laura Zapotichny, Regional District of Fraser Fort George, BC (B.C.)

What is EPR?

The industries that create paper, plastics, and hazardous materials will soon be responsible for the collection and management of those materials at the end of their product life. Producers must arrange to take over this responsibility from municipalities.

Essentially, recycling collection will soon be one less thing for municipalities to do. The costs for the recycling system will be accounted for in the cost of a product—not in property taxes or utility rates.
