A guide for administrators: privacy legislation
In partnership with Reynolds Mirth Richards & Farmer LLP, ABmunis developed the Alberta Privacy Legislation: A Guide for Administrators to help municipal administrators navigate the new Access to Information Act and Protection of Privacy Act.
The Access to Information Act and Protection of Privacy Act officially replaced the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act in June 2025. Municipal administrators have responsibilities under each Act that focus on the governance of privacy programs, responsible handling of personal information, and timely responses to requests for municipal records.
A separate Guide for Elected Officials is also available to support elected officials in navigating their roles and responsibilities related to privacy legislation.
