Changes to Bills 50 & 51: Webinar update
On May 6, Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) hosted a webinar with staff from Alberta Municipal Affairs, Alberta Education and Childcare, and Alberta Infrastructure to discuss recent changes introduced through Bills 50 and 51, related to school sites.
The webinar saw a strong level of engagement, with more than 130 attendees participating in the one-hour session and over 80 questions submitted by members. The volume of questions highlighted the significant interest municipalities have in understanding how these legislative changes may impact planning, servicing, land ownership, and future school development processes.
While it was not possible to address every question during the webinar, ABmunis has compiled and submitted the outstanding questions to the relevant ministries for follow-up. We will continue working with provincial partners to obtain additional clarification, and share responses and further information with members as soon as it becomes available.
