Alberta Day 2026 funding

In 2022, the Government of Alberta established September 1 as Alberta Day in perpetuity. Alberta Day is a chance to celebrate who we are as Albertans and what we can achieve together.

To create a province-wide celebration of our heritage and cultural identity, the provincial government is providing funding, through Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis), to eligible municipalities. These funds are made available to help municipalities with the costs of hosting local Alberta Day events on a day of their choosing between August 28 to September 1, 2026.

 Funding will be distributed across three categories based on a per capita model as follows:

  • Municipalities with populations greater than 20,000 will be eligible for up to $10,000;
  • Municipalities with populations between 1,000 and 20,000 will be eligible for up to $5,000; and
  • Municipalities with populations less than 1,000 will be eligible for $1,500.

Expression of Interest (EOI) guidelines and forms have been sent via email to all Alberta CAOs. Interested parties should connect with their CAO for more details. Completed EOIs must be sent to AlbertaDay [at] gov.ab.ca (Alberta Day) no later than May 19, 2026.
