ABmunis voices members’ concerns in Ottawa
In addition to participating in last week’s Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) annual conference, Alberta Municipalities' representatives met with senior officials in Ottawa from Housing Infrastructure and Communities Canada (HICC), the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN), Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), and the Privy Council Office (PCO).
We appreciate the federal government's willingness to meet with us to discuss the needs and perspectives of Alberta's municipal governments. We shared our perspective on housing, homelessness, infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and emergency preparedness. We also talked about the important work our member communities are doing to enable housing development and emphasized the need for programs that recognize the unique housing and infrastructure challenges Alberta faces.
In the coming weeks and months, we will follow up with Government of Canada officials on the need for federal investments in Alberta communities that reflect our members’ specific circumstances.
