ABmunis meetings with ministers
Meeting with Minister LaGrange
On February 12, 2026, the Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) Executive Committee met with the Honourable Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services, to discuss access to health care. The conversation covered a range of topics, including the current status of Alberta’s health care refocusing process, opportunities to better engage ABmunis members, and our Property Taxes Reimagined (PTR) campaign.
Minister LaGrange shared insight into upcoming next steps in the refocusing process. This includes identifying gaps in existing Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and a potential move toward more regionalized PCNs. She also provided key contacts for future discussions, and expressed appreciation for the dialogue the PTR campaign is fostering with Albertans and the provincial government.
As a follow-up, the Health and Social Wellbeing Committee will invite several of the key decision-makers identified by the Minister to participate in future committee meetings.
Meeting with Minister Nixon
On February 23, 2026, ABmunis President Dylan Bressey and Vice President Gardner met with the Honourable Jason Nixon, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services. The discussion focused on key areas within the Minister’s portfolio, including housing and the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) program.
Minister Nixon noted that the 2026 provincial budget may not include an increase to FCSS funding but encouraged ABmunis to continue advocating for incremental funding increases over time.
The meeting also highlighted Alberta’s record number of housing starts over the past two years, and provided an opportunity to emphasize the important role municipalities play in supporting housing development. In addition, there was discussion on the importance of maintaining reasonable off-site levies in Alberta and the need to continue advocating to the federal government on this issue.
