Senior Superintendent - Water Utilities
The Opportunity:
The City is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the permanent full-time role of Senior Superintendent – Water Utilities. This Senior Utilities Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of The City’s Water Services (Water, Wastewater / Stormwater, Construction & Maintenance, and Planning sections) operations while providing effective leadership, direction, and development for all aspects of the business. They will ensure goals are established and met for the safety of staff and the public, the provision of quality customer service, and compliance with industry regulations, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. The Senior Superintendent demonstrates appropriate stewardship of all section resources and will work closely with senior management and organizational supports in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of budgetary and resource allocation plans. Developing effective, collaborative relationships with a broad range of parties across the organization, the community, the utility industry, and various orders of government is a priority for this key member of the utilities team.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:

University Degree in relevant leadership or technical field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

8 – 10 years of varied, progressive management / supervisory experience with increasing responsibilities.

Knowledge of municipal government and utility operations is considered an asset.

Experience in all aspects of municipal water utility functions (water, wastewater, and stormwater treatment, distribution and collection) is considered an asset.

Ability to make sound judgments, gather information from a variety of sources and articulate findings effectively in oral and print format.

Knowledge of economics, basic accounting principles and the techniques of budget preparation and utility financial models.

Well-developed interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal staff as well as with other industry stakeholders, regulatory boards, provincial government and elected officials

Excellent communications skills to function appropriately with field staff, technical personnel, senior management, external stakeholders and elected officials.

Ability to coordinate and monitor a number of activities and range of projects that can involve complex situations and often conflicting needs and interests including strong negotiation skills.

Thorough and broad technical experience in water utilities including planning, design, construction and operations.

Demonstrated commitment to training, mentoring, coaching and team building.

Collaborative problem solving and issues resolution.

Excellent analysis, assessment and decision-making skills.

Knowledge of project management practices and principles would be beneficial.

A valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with an acceptable driving record.

• In addition to the competitive wages of $ 65.56 to $81.95 per hour ($128,341 to $160,426 per annum).
