Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal and legislative guidance to support governance and policy development.
  • Interpret and advise on complex legislative matters, ensuring clarity and compliance.
  • Draft, review, and enhance bylaws, policies, contracts, and agreements.
  • Support the CAO, Mayor, and Council with strategic legislative and procedural advice.
  • Oversee Council Chambers and act as a vital backup to the Executive & Legislative Coordinator.
  • Coordinate committee agendas and maintain legislative documentation.
  • Serve as the Returning Officer for municipal elections and as the Census Coordinator.
  • Ensure the Legislative Services webpage is updated and user-friendly.
  • Prepare and monitor budget for Legislative and Administrative areas.

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary degree in Public Administration, Legal Studies, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in public administration or a similar role.
  • NACLAA Level I certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of Alberta’s Municipal Government Act and municipal governance.
  • Exceptional skills in interpreting complex legislation and providing clear, actionable guidance.
  • Strong problem-solving, research, writing, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic records management systems.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

Additional Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid Driver’s License and current Driver's Abstract.
  • Bondable and Commissioner for Oaths designation.
  • Availability for flexible hours, including evening meetings and weekend workshops.
