Planning Officer – Current & Long-Range Planning
The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking a confident and personable professional to join our Planning & Development Team. Reporting to the Manager, Current & Long Range Planning, the Planning Officer provides quality and timely delivery of planning services.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Assist the Manager, Current & Long Range Planning in the management, development, and implementation of all Statutory and Master Plans, including amendments to existing plans.

Assist in the development and reviewing of developer led Outline Plans and amendments to the existing Outline Plans.

Assist in the development and approval of the City-led new Land Use Bylaw project, as well as in processing applicant-led Land Use Bylaw amendments, subdivision applications, development agreements, and endorsement applications.

Understand and apply the project’s established methodologies for policy review and contribute to improvements in these methodologies.

Assemble research, data and knowledge to provide solutions that integrate planning, transportation, growth management and urban design.

Assist in the planning, preparing for and facilitating public and stakeholder engagement initiatives – online and in-person

Provide graphic support as required for planning studies and public and stakeholder engagement processes.

Undertake research in support of the development of statutory and non-statutory plans, and subdivision, Land Use Bylaw amendment, and development permit applications.

Assist with the preparation of reports and presentations for Council presentations, public engagement opportunities, and similar events.

Provide support for select Strategic Initiatives that fall under the responsibility of Infrastructure & Community Services as the need arises.

Foster collaborative working relationships with internal City departments and represent the City on regional boards and sub-committees as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess a two-year Diploma in Urban Planning or a related discipline. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Graduation from the Applied Land Use Planning Certificate Program in conjunction with an unrelated post-secondary two-year Diploma may be considered. A University Degree in Urban, Regional or Land Use Planning or a related discipline is considered an asset. Membership, or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners along with a Class 5 Drivers License is required. Prior Planning related experience is considered an asset. This position requires a sound understanding of municipal planning and development, including Provincial Acts and Regulations. Experience with the writing and interpretation of planning policy is required. The incumbent will have working knowledge of computerized applications and techniques, including Microsoft Office Applications, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD and GIS Software. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective communication for interaction with coworkers, other professionals, and the public. Dispute resolution, organization, and time management skills with the ability to change focus and priorities on an ongoing basis is crucial.
Rate of Pay: $39.19 - $46.11 per hour
Duration: Immediately – August 14, 2026
