Full-Time, 12-month fixed-term contract

As the Heritage Planning and Public Art Coordinator you are joining our dynamic team of Planning and Environment professionals who are committed to “Take Care of Banff” by ensuring the Town of Banff’s built environment reflects the beauty, heritage, and natural grandeur of Canada’s premier national park. 

In this 12-month fixed-term contract the Heritage Planning and Public Art Coordinator will support and develop the Heritage and Public Art programs.

The heritage planning function is responsible for providing guidance, direction and technical expertise to staff and others on all heritage related matters including developing heritage policy, supporting initiatives to protect built heritage within the community as set out in the Heritage Resource Action Plan, and acting as the liaison to the Banff Heritage Corporation.

In addition to the heritage planning function, is the public art service area. This position is responsible for acting as the liaison to the Public Art Committee and supporting them in developing policy as well as implementing public art within the community.

Your great communication and relationship building skills will allow you to work well and support these groups of passionate individuals that strive to promote, preserve and protect both heritage and public art resources within Banff. This, combined with interest and enthusiasm for learning and developing your skills and knowledge in policy and project implementation will enable you to succeed in supporting these groups and advancing Council’s strategic priorities in these areas.

Having experience and a passion for built heritage, arts and/or culture in an institutional or municipal setting will be helpful in navigating the complexities of the issues unique to our town. You will work with corporation/committee members, consultants and other town employee’s on advancing the strategic priorities. You will apply inherent competencies to successfully multi-task and exercise sound judgment in decision making.

Formally you have a recognized post-secondary education or training in Urban Planning, Heritage Conservation, Culture, Architecture, or similar program.
