Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Steps Aside

On Monday, Premier Kenney announced that Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Kaycee Madu is taking a leave of absence following news that he contacted Edmonton’s police chief after receiving a ticket for a traffic violation in March 2021.

The Premier stated that it is essential for the independent administration of justice to be maintained. He said he will appoint a “respected independent investigator to review the relevant facts and to determine whether there was interference in the administration of justice in this case.”

Energy Minister Sonya Savage will act as Minister of Justice and Solicitor General during Madu’s temporary absence.
