UPDATE FROM THE LEGISLATURE – December 7, 2022

The legislature is in session, and debate this week is centred on responses to the Speech from the Throne and Bill 1. Government caucus indicated on Dec. 5 that they support amendments to the bill to more narrowly define when Cabinet can take action and remove the power of Cabinet to amend statutes outside of the normal legislative process.

Amendments to Bill 1 have yet to be introduced in the assembly, but Alberta Municipalities will continue to monitor developments related to this bill to determine how they may affect municipalities and municipal entities.
